Akreeti Singh 1782874 English 102 CU07 How To Be a Shampoo Girl 101 After graduating high school in Fort McMurray, I finally decided what I wanted to do as a career. I wanted to be an entrepreneur and to further elaborate, I wanted to have my own hair salon and spa. The first step to achieve this dream was getting a job in the most popular salon in the city, Razor’s Edge Hair Studio to further my education on the beauty industry. As an assistant, it was my duty to be a shampoo girl, help with customer service and restock supplies. When being taught how to shampoo, it was at first very difficult because you had to be able to distinguish between rinsing and shampooing. The first step is introducing yourself to the client, telling them what you are to specifically doing in order to help the stylist. After establishing if I am rinsing a colour or just shampooing their hair, I would ask them to follow me to the sinks, where I would put a towel around their neck, wiping their neck area of any colour if they are getting a colour done and then lay their head into the sink. Now comes the much harder part: actually washing their hair. Getting the hang of actually holding the little hose is hard and then having to get a rhythm comes afterwards. Once that is done the water temperature has to be what the client would like and then proceed to wash the colour out of their hair by giving a slow massage to make sure all of the product is gone. Once all the product is gone out of the hair, it is time to actually shampoo the client’s hair by taking two pumps of shampoo, an extra couple of pumps depending on length and thickness of their hair. The shampoo is a faster massage just to make sure that any colour that was not taken out by water is completely gone.
