How does religion affect your Social Life First of all, what is religion? Religion is supposed to be the element that binds people together according to their faith and belief. But all that religion does is it discriminates each and every person in another sector. So what is the real religion? What is the religion that will bind all things? My name is Raphael M. Adalia, and I am a Catholic. I grew up as a Catholic and I plan to stay this way until I die. I have no plans of converting to another denomination. I love being a Catholic and I love what I believe in. Catholics as we all know are the most predominant denomination in the whole of Philippines. This is the reason why religion does not go in the way of finding friends or acquaintances. Being a catholic, I have an advantage over some of my classmates who are on other denominations. For example, when we were in 3rd and 4th year high school, we had our promenade. The dance instructor paired me with anyone he pleases, but my classmates who are in religious sectors which restrict them from holding hands or any “intimate” body contact can’t go to the prom. Some of my classmates’ religions restrict them from pairing with other religious sectors, and so they searched for a partner with the same religions as them. Being a catholic also has its disadvantage. In Saudi Arabia, there are Filipinos who work as housemaids. Most recruiters prefer that their maids are Muslims. So what “desperate” Filipinos do for them to be admitted to the job they want, they convert themselves to Islam. This is not a very good picture! Imagine betraying your God for a job that is not even permanent? Another disadvantage of being a catholic is the notion of others that we will not be saved from eternal damnation and that we are not true believers of Jesus Christ and God.
