Literature Review The theme selected for this internal assessment is “Music”. Music may be defined as a language, expressing feeling and ideas through the medium of sounds, which are named after the first letters of the alphabet namely A,B,C,D,E,F,G. (STIMPSON J. ORLANDO, COLLINS’ SCHOOL SERIES SINGING). According to Collins Gem School Dictionary music may also be defined as an art form using melodious and harmonious combination of notes; written or printed. Music can be portrayed either by audio or video but what’s most important is lyrically. Music is divided into what you call genres. Genres are a conventional category that identifies pieces of music as belonged to a shared tradition or set. The researcher will be focusing on three genres of music: Hip Hop, Dancehall &Rap. The music industry or music business consists of the companies and individuals that make money by creating and selling music. The music industry doesn’t simply affect society in a positive or negative way; it is not restricted to causing conflict or creating new gestures or jargons. SCHAEFER, R. T. (2009). Music is a way people can communicate their values and powerful messages of faith or activism. People relate their lives to specific songs or groups much like popular sports teams. Music is a functional way to communicate feelings and beliefs to many different cultures and communities. When there is conflict in the world the music industry embraces expression through artists to unite listeners in common interest. The music industry also utilizes the public’s love of music to raise money for victims of natural disasters
