Coming to this country and adapting to the language and the culture it wasn't easy for Julia. She faced discrimination from the kids at school because of her Hispanic ethnicity. Julia always loved stories since she was little she loved hearing them and also telling them, but is when she came to this country she developed her writing skills. Hispanic culture is more oral expression than written, is not very common for a child or teenager to keep a daily journal but it is for American. Thankfully to this experiences in her life she was able to transformed them into wonderful written pieces.
Tanya’s parents did this because they wanted her to fit into this, “red, white and blue world.”(pg 8) They wanted her to be able to speak the English language without a hint of the Spanish accent. Her parents said that by doing so people would look past the ethnicity and only see an American girl. Tanya tries to relate with her audience by speaking a bit of Spanish in her essay. Some of the words she uses are Latinos, ingles, and gringa. By using these words she can relate to both the American and Latino audiences, while also showing her knowledge of the Spanish language.
Page 58 she says the registrar called her and her brother, “you people”. They had a preconceived notion that because she was brown skinned she should already be able to speak Spanish. She was able to comprehend the language but unable or uncomfortable to be able to speak it. Even as she learned to speak the language the Latino community made her feel unaccepted because she spoke a broken dialect. I can relate to her as I have been in many countries.
Her parents spoke only English to their kids even though amongst themselves it was Spanish only. Even though she didn’t know Spanish, her trip to Mexico gave her a new love for her heritage. She came back with a hunger to learn the language she had left at the border so many years ago. As she learns the language she writes this essay to appeal to those other people who, like her, have struggled with their heritage. She wants those who are Latino, but know Spanish as a second language, to step out and be proud of who they are.
I think Spanish classes should be mandatory, and that they should start at a young age. People should be more accepting of immigrants who speak different languages, because they have helped our society and lead to a positive growth of our country. Gonzalez did an amazing job of opening my eyes to the real reason for

In Munro’s story, while a teenage girl is babysitting for her neighbours, she decides to try some of the liquor that is left out on the counter. Foolishly, the girl drinks too much, too fast, and gets very sick. She then calls her friend to come and help her who brings another girl and 3 boys along for the ride. They do help her by cleaning up the mess she made from throwing up and giving her coffee to get her upright again. The unfortunate part is that they are still there when the parents arrive home early to discover their, still very drunk, babysitter with some extra people in their home.
In history while I don’t feel I am strong at memorizing, I do connect ideas well together. In continuing my study of Spanish I believe it will help me to communicate with more people, since nearly half of our country speaks Spanish. The ability to create new and different things is the reason why I have enjoyed art. 3. I enjoy athletics specifically participating in soccer and cheerleading, but I enjoy watching basketball and football as well.

My siblings and I were on winter break and we had just finished eating dinner. My mom was washing dished while we were upstairs watching TV, when we heard the front door slam as our father entered the house. Quietly, we listened as our father entered the kitchen and began yelling at our mother. Suddenly, my mother screamed and a whole bunch of dishes and glasses fell to the ground. We all ran down the stairs and looked into the kitchen, where we saw our mother laying on the ground, clutching her arm with our father glaring down at her.
