He went across the country just to try to win his wife back. Ulysses wife as well as Odysseus’s were both going to marry another man, but they both reached their wives in time and won them back. Odysseus and Ulysses show amazing leadership. They always know how to get out of those tough situations. When Odysseus and his men got stuck in the Cyclops cave everyone else freaked out.
He spent many years fighting there and finally defeated them with the “wooden horse.” After the war, he set sail to return to his island, Ithica. While trying to find their way home they came across an island where Posiedon’s Cyclops sons lived. Odysseus blinded one of his Cyclops, Polyphemus. Homer’s Odyssey takes place years after the conclusion of the Trojan War. King Odysseus of Ithaca was sent to fight in the Trojan War due to an alliance with King Menelaus of Sparta. He was held captive by Calypso and unable to return. His absence back home has had adverse effects on his homeland, especially his family. However, the absence of Odysseus has had the largest effect on Telemakhos, his son whom he left as a newborn.
It makes you think that his men getting home is low on Odysseus’s list, which is proven when Circe tells him that he will be the only survivor, and he seems not to care. Odysseus could be considered a hero, but many of his actions say otherwise. Now in modern culture, a hero puts himself before others. The hero is the one that runs into the burning building; The one that saves the city. The one that you would least expect.
First, in various stories Odysseus is very contradicting to himself because he is only hero-like some of the time. When he and his men were raiding the Cyclops’ cave they could have left before the Cyclops got there and they could have avoided a lot of trouble. But Odysseus wanted to be a hero and wanted to stay and fight the Cyclops. This was a very selfish move of him and ended up being the wrong decision because it cost him a few of his best men. Later when he redeems himself he tells the Cyclops his name is nobody and gets him drunk.
He utterly envies the men who died in the Trojan War, wishing he could be so lucky, as to die behind the walls. Instead he is fated to endure the wrath of Juno and lead the fleet of people to found a new city. He is a rather interesting character, different than common heroes, like Achilles in the Iliad, who are driven by kleos in their piety. Aeneas on the other hand, is strictly motivated by fate, but he still proves to be equally as pious, as heroes like Achilles. Not
A hero is someone who will risk his life to protect others. A hero is brave, courageous and strong. Yet a hero also has weaknesses. Odysseus is a hero that has to leave his family to fight in the Trojan War, he has a clever idea and with the help of a god, the war ended. However, he insults Poseidon because he didn’t say thanks to him.
He sent his troops in to aid his father in battle against Athens and Thebes. Soon after this battle Alexander became king at his father’s demise. King Phillip was killed by a man names Pausanias, but it is speculated as to why. After much talk and consideration by the government they agreed it would be in the best interest of the kingdom to have Alexander replace his father for his chance as King. Once he had his much desired position as ruler he killed anyone who could possibly take his place.
Unfortunately his story did not end in true heroic fashion. His death during battle was twisted and covered up by the military so that the truth of what really happened wouldn’t prevail. (Biskeborn) Growing up in San Jose, California where he was born November 6th, 1976 he was extremely close to his family and high school friends that attended Leland high school. Being the jock around school you would think that he would be a bully but he was far from that he actually was the total opposite he loved to help others anyway possible. What could have been a hug twist in his life was the night that his football team won the state championship the whole team went out to celebrate the victory while one of his teammates was sloppy drunk and the other team that got beat just so happened to show up.
