When Abigail was talking to Proctor she says “She is telling lies to about me! She is a cold sniveling woman, and you bend to her!”(Page 15, act one) she is basically showing her jealousy towards his wife. This stirred up the witch trials because Abigail wanted to be with Proctor and she would do just about anything. The fact that John proctor realizes all of his flaws and confesses to all of his sins is another reason why he can be considered a tragic hero. When Proctor had to go to the court to get his wife out of being accused of upholding witchcraft he eventually confess to his sins he committed.
Steinbeck uses the word ‘Coulda’ to show that Curley’s wife thinks she had the potential to be a movie star but she ended up with a guy who she hates. We know this because she says ‘I don’t like Curley’, this is interesting because every time she engages into conversation with other men she is always looking for Curley whereas now she says she don’t like him. This makes the reader think that she was using Curley as excuse to communicate with other characters and this shows her desire for attention like we discussed in the previous pare graph but ultimately shows that she is useless without Curley. Steinbeck did this because he wanted the audience to understand not always you get what your dream and not all Americans got the best out the American dreams, some peoples dreams ware destroyed in matter of seconds as we seen in this chapter as Curley's wife dies with it ends Georges Linnes, Curley's wife and Candy's dreams. This clearly states that even the judge of her case thought she was doing the right thing. Kay did her daughter a favor out of the kindness and loving in her heart.
I think Ismene changed her mid because Antigone is her sister and you always stand up for family. She didn’t want to commit the crime because she was trying to talk Antigone out of doing the crime. In the end Ismene is the only one who lives and has a kind of guilt free life. She may not have family left besides Creon but at least she tried to save them. I think out all the characters she made the smarter choices and she thought about the consequences.
Once one thing goes wrong you’re scared to try it again. When Janie went through two marriages where they controlled her, where she had no freedom, and where they both ended badly, we can understand why she is hesitant. After Janie and Teacake got married she had all the fears and doubts in the world, especially after he stole her money. But after returning from gambling the money away with almost double of it back she realized she wanted to be a part of everything Teacake did. “…Janie looked down on him and felt a self-crushing love.
‘Maybe you better go along to your own house now. We don’t want no trouble’ this shows that the workers were cautious of being caught with Curley’s wife and sent her on her way to avoid conflict. Curley treasures his wife and if she were caught in any trouble, even if it was her fault, she’d be seen as innocent. Finally, Steinbeck also presents women as attractive and confident. The quotes ‘If he ain’t, I better look someplace else, she said playfully’ and ‘Hi, Good-lookin’.’ These show all the workers think Curley’s wife is attractive and she knows this, so she’s being confident with them.

Subsequently Elizabeth Proctor known of this affair and as in result Elizabeth is forced to let Abigail go as the servant in the Proctor house.
When john takes Mary to the court so she can testify against the girls they think it’s a bit suspicious. When the girls are brought into the court they accuse Mary of bewitching them. John gets fed up and he confesses to his affair with Abigail to prove that she is not a goodly person and that she is jealous of his wife. Elizabeth is brought to the court to prove of what john is saying is true but because of her kindness and her love for her husband she lies to protect his name. Abigail and the girls pretend Mary is bewitching them again which make Mary breakdown and accuse john of being a witch.
