1. How does the CIP at UPS foster a culture in the organization? CIP builds teamwork in a unity amongst employees which helps foster the organizations culture. Through community service and outreach mangers form a system of shared meaning (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). After returning from this program managers are able to better reciprocate the learning experience thus building loyalty within the organization. Employees that have been socialized to the organization properly will in turn, overtime, appreciate their value (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). The essential task of leaders is to bring out good feelings in those they lead (Wasylyshyn, 2008). CIP allows leaders to create resonance which brings an atmosphere of positively that releases the best in employees. 2. What role can human resources play in ensuring success for this internship program? Human resources can ensure success for the CIP by properly selecting managers to participate in the internship. Based on a performance-based evaluation human resources can determine how well mangers and workers are performing the job (DeCenzo & Robbins, 2007). Next, human resources can make sure that there is enough funding for the internship program to continue on a regular basis. Depending on how many managers need this form of training, human resources would have to prepare the funding for this program to run appropriately. Human resources could also make sure that the office is properly manned during the absence of the manager. This means other managers would pull dual-duties in order to help out in their absence. After seeing and reporting the outcome of this program, human resources can make sure the internship activities are facilitated correctly, making sure they are tailored to fit the organization’s needs. 3. Identify how you would evaluate the CIP program to demonstrate that it’s beneficial to the manager
