Shaun Fuller 9/30/13 SOC 210 Mrs. Deibert Kids are exposed to a lot of different things growing up, that can shape his or her personality. Toys can shape a child’s views on gender. Another key component to the shaping of a child’s personality is the realization of social class. Kids, depending on what social position their family are in, have to sometimes learn at a young what less/ more privilege kids are. There are many factors that play a part to the socialization process in a child life. These factors may vary depending on the child’s home situation. First, kids start to learn that there are kids less fortunate than them by observing the way they dress and the quality of their school supplies. When they see this, they normally will question that classmate why he or she dresses that way or why their supplies aren’t up to par. I remember being in kindergarten, there was this one kid that took out his torn blanket during nap time. Everybody use to laugh at him, which probably caused a large amount of self-consciousness. Next, the social class of a child can affect the way they interact with fellow classmates and teachers. At times, kids would act out in front of the whole class for attention. This is sometimes cause by the child being ignore by a sibling or parent. In all my elementary years, the white kids use to get in more trouble than the blacks. In most cases it is because black kids got disciplined more as opposed to Caucasians. I remember going to a white friend’s house in like 2nd grade, and every time he did something over the top his mom and dad didn’t pay him any mind. There is a barrier between the ways they discipline their kid’s actions.
