Race and My Community Name Axia College of University of Phoenix Even though official state that race has no effect on the community, racism, discrimination, and stereotypes run ramped in America today and is still very prevalent in communities and their leaders.. In many communities racism hides behind attractive faces and within the hearts of people that are least suspected. Some of the members of my community look like me and some do not. I live in a neighborhood in which the majority of the people work hard to keep up with their bills. The people who resemble me consist of every race and look like hardworking people that are tired all the time. We all dress professionally and then when we get home from work we are cleaning up in or around our homes. The people that do not look like me dress casual all the time and stay at home, lounging around during the day so they look less stressed. These types of people do not work, go to school, take care of children, or do any housework. Anytime someone younger in my community attempts to get onto the home owners board they are denied. Another thing that I noticed is that none of them actually live on site. They all own homes within my community but they rent them out. I feel that this is ridiculous. The board should be made up of people that live here and people that own but rent the home out. There should at least a percentage of people that live on site that are on the board. I am personally a home owner and I feel that without the input and support of actual community members then nothing is getting resolved because these board members have no clue as to what is actually going on in the community. They treat people differently because of the fact that they all live in really nice homes outside of the community. It is difficult to reiterate all of the things that they have said for me to form this opinion but it is blatantly apparent when they get together and speak to people in the community that have shown up at the meetings. They are very disrespectful to every race equally. I know that the minority groups interests are not represented in my community because the minority in my community are low income. At the last meeting we had to vote on whether or not we wanted the pool house and the pool repaired. We all wanted it repaired but the majority of the people voted “no” because it was going to raise
