Martin Luther King Jr.1 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cheryl Johnson ENG 102 Stephanie Timber September 9, 2013 Martin Luther King Jr.2 Abstract I've examined the little information I gathered about one historical great leader of all times, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a transformational leadership style while he was in the position of a Civil Rights Activist and Minister. This short paper is based on how Mr. King transformed his followers through his inspiration. He created a vision for how the African-Americans deserved equal rights among the white society. For many years we have shown an amazing patience. We have sometimes given our white brothers the feeling that we liked the way we were being treated. But we come here tonight to be saved from that patience that makes us patient with anything less than freedom and justice" (The Biography Channel website, 2013, page 2). That first speech he made, electrified the struggling people of Alabama. The speech he made inspired and influenced the people leading them to look forward to achieve a goal in the civil rights amendment. With that kind of action performed by Martin Luther King Jr's, it relates to him being a transformational leader. Transformational leaders influence, inspire, move and literally transform followers to achieve organizational goals beyond their self-interests (Burns, 1978). Martin Luther King Jr. became an associate of Bayard Rustin who studied Gandhi's teachings. He was counseled by Bayard Rustin and dedicated himself to the fundamentals of non-violence. King inspired thousands of people through his fearlessness action. He was always positive, always willing to meet new challenges to achieve his number goal, the Cilvil Rights Act of 1964.
