After the release of the prison, his brother Reginald discussed his recent engagement with the Muslim religion. Malcolm began the study of this new religion. During his role of leadership in the Muslim religion, Malcolm Little removed his last name, and replicated with X, since he believe his last name was meaning of slave. His frustration towards the white America community, and the lack of success of African Americans, created the movement to keep all the “Negros” together and harm if necessary. The most important issues during this time was the lack of independence and success within the black community.
The reason for the riots were because the black powers were getting fed up with the slow change nonviolent protest that Martin Luther King was behind were actually doing for the African Americans. However the riots actually discarded some Martin Luther King’s work as it loss supports from the whites which Martin Luther King had worked hard to gain through peaceful protests. The loss of sympathy and supporters form the whites due to the black powers violent methods can be seen as hindering the black civil rights fight for equality and rights. The riots were broadcasted all over America through media, with the African Americans looking like violent thugs and thus creating a negative perception of them, this again caused a huge loss of sympathetic white supporters. Although the riots
Both black and white people do drugs, and Shakur felt that it is wrong to place the drug stereotype mainly on blacks. In his belief, removing the evil in people will make them honorable citizens and more caring towards one another. Shakur also goes on to say that it is time for black people to stop killing each other, and it is time to start healing each other. Tupac Shakur felt that a black president would have been a heaven sent miracle for the black people; in his opinion black people as a whole were not ready to have a black president. I believe he felt this way because he did not approve of the behavior of many black people; he also felt that the percentage of black people in jail was too high.
How far is it accurate to say that the black power weakened the civil rights movement in the 1960’s? To some degree it is accurate to say that the growth of Black Power is a reason why the Civil Rights Movement weakened. However it can be argued that there were many other reasons that were involved with the break down such as the Vietnam War, which shifted many people’s opinions away from the civil rights movement, the death of the two main leaders Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, and the Nation of Islam, I believe that these factors are more influential in the collapse in the Civil Rights Movement in America than the emergence of Black Power. The Nation of Islam contributed to the collapse of the civil rights movement. This organisation
Later on, I found out that a new leader by the name of Elijah Muhammed was the main person that Malcolm had read from. Elijah believed that "white society actively worked to keep African-Americans from empowering themselves and achieving political, economic, and social success.” It’s just amazing how much this had changed his life and caused him to be a follower automatically. Not many people know that because of this movement he changed his last name to the famous "X". I was very anxious into finding out his reason and here is why:"My application had, of course, been made and during this time I received from Chicago my "X." The Muslim's "X" symbolized the true African family name that he never could know.
But he encountered more criticism and public challenges from young black-power leaders. King's patient, non-violent approach and appeal to white middle-class citizens alienated many black militants who considered his methods too weak and too late. In the eyes of other blacks, this method seem too weak and
All these discourses influenced him when he later joined the Nation of Islam in prison after being a criminal and pimp, as we saw in class with the film “Malcolm X” he worked his way to the top speaking for black civil rights and the nation of Islam, he projected ideals of violence, self-defense, nationalism and separation of the races initially, however later on his ideas later moved closer to that of Martin Luther King Jr. Malcolm X is important because after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. many black Americans felt it was time to take action and stop getting beat up by the police so they turned to Malcolm X. One of his most famous speeches “The Ballot or the Bullet” addressed many issues concerning the black community that needed to be addressed, all of which paved the way for the Black Panthers Party and black power self-determination. In his speech The Ballot or the Bullet Malcolm X addresses his religion and how he is not defined by his religion and it is his personal life and governs his personal morals, he says that although Nation of Islam is his religion his beliefs are in black nationalism because if he talks about religion they would never reach an agreement so we need to get past that and get together and fight the enemy that is common to all of us. (Ballot or the Bullet) Malcolm X said that the political beliefs of black nationalism is having pride in being black and to understand the politics in our community and how much politics play into our lives. He put emprises on the importance of blacks being politically aware when he said, “We must understand the politics of our community and we must know what politics is supposed to produce.
It is this Committee that spoke on behalf of the movement as they were elites and needed to enlighten the community of the oppression they are undergoing. The Black Panthers movement was embraced by most of the people who felt oppressed such as the Blacks and the Puerto Rican young men and even the white revolutions which were against racial discrimination and in need to reform the American society. However, the movement was strongly resisted by the government and its agencies such as the police and the FBI who brutally abused the Panthers and mercilessly killed them (Reed, 57). The Police brutality was extreme that, the whole group was to be completely wiped out. The FBI achieved their goal by infiltrating the Movement through informants and using propaganda as a tool to cause division among the group’s leadership (Armstrong,
Compare/Contrast Essay: Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X In the 1960’s there were an uprising of some sort. The “black” communities were beginning to realize their constitutional rights. There were a few bold souls that decided to take a stand, no matter the consequences. These great men were known as Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. Martin Luther King’s peaceful protests against narrow minded white supremacists helped him rise to national fame, Malcolm X, born Malcolm Little, lectured the United States about Islam and urged others to dismiss all whites as their enemies and arm themselves for war. Each discussed the same issues, but their methods of achievement and ideas about equal opportunity differed as much as night and day.
In today’s society there still seems to be a lot of Christian hypocrisy in America regardless of race and even now regardless of sexual preference. Of course religion has turned a blind eye to injustices in the past for instance slavery, but as far as actually flipping religious philosophy in the country. Walkers appeal was the start of self-inflicted riot among whites during that time, no white man wanted a black man to outsmart their master plan to control African-Americans (at that time Africans). Even in the society we reside in today the white still feel the need to be in charge and to control African-Americans all because of there will power to feel dominate. Even after Walker published his Appeal the southern states did not want it publishes nowhere that the blacks could get a hold of it, unwavering the fact that many of them could not read.
