The Call of the Wild Buck, a courageous St. Bernard Shepard Mix, changed dramatically through the novel. Buck started out a laid back dog that lived in the Santa Clara Valley, until he got kidnapped one day, which marked the beginning of his life changing journey. Buck got shipped up to Seattle, Washington and then to Alaska, where he learned many lessons, from who to trust to when to fight. The journey Buck took changed the way he looked at humans, dogs, and himself. Buck became an independent, strong, defensive dog who knew more about the wild than he would have ever imagined and it all started in the Santa Clara Valley. Buck grew up in the Santa Clara Valley at a beautifully landscaped house that belonged to Judge Miller. Buck roamed around the property without a care in the world and had no clue what the real world was like. Buck was neither a house dog nor an outside dog and did whatever he pleased. Buck was devastated and started raging in anger. Buck pounced on every Yeehat he could and ripped and slashed the throats until most of them were either gone or dead. Afterwards, Buck was devastated and just mourned everywhere he went. The only human he ever loved and truly, deeply trusted was dead and Buck was on his own. A couple days later, Buck encountered a pack of wolves. Frightened at first, the wolves started attacking Buck, but every wolf that attacked him was attacked right back. After the fighting was over, Buck noticed his wild brother, who then introduced him to the old wolf. When they met up, the wolves started howling and Buck realized that they were who he was supposed to be with, and he started howling too. Right after they were down howling they ran into the forest and Buck was right behind them. Buck was finally with the group he was meant to be with and became what he was meant to
