“What can I do to make the world a better place?” This question baffles me for so long. With major issues concerning various scopes like peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment and even water and sanitation becoming more apparent throughout the globe, I just could not see how a 16-year-old me could make any contributions for the betterment of the world. I did not quite understand how Laura Marano could say, ““Every single person has the power to change the world and help people”. I hit dead end by just thinking specifically of how to solve each issue on its own. Then, it hit me. The common solution to most – if not all – of the major world issues are education with values and power. I realize that education is such a vital asset in shaping the world that by day gets more and more advanced. They are tools and perhaps, weapons too, that would definitely help one in his mission to make the world a better place. The Khan Academy, TED Talks, Youth Olympic Games and our very own Teach for Malaysia are a few of the great initiatives that helps trigger positive developments amongst youths in the society. Currently just the average student myself, I am aware that there is a long way for me to go in order to reach out to others on a global scale. I am used to helping my peers out with subjects that I understand and vice versa. I am also used to sharing ideas with the people in my environment. I think it is safe to say that these are small stepping stones for me in sharing knowledge with others.
