Over the decades, tourism has experienced continued growth and deepening ‎diversification to become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. Tourism has become the fourth largest industry in the global economy. Similarly in India tourism has become one of the major sectors of the economy, contributing to a large proportion of the National Income and generating huge employment opportunities and better living standards for community members. Heritage is regarded as one of the more significant and fastest growing components of tourism in many developed economies (Alzue, O’Leary, & Morrison, 1998; Herbert, 2001). It is becoming increasingly popular in the world, and deemed important for tourism development. Tourism is widely acknowledged for its role in creating national and/or regional wealth (UNWTO, 2009). If sustainably managed, tourism can provide numerous other benefits (Stronza, 2007; Weaver and Lawton, 2007). Tourism can be a catalyst for the conservation and revival of natural and cultural heritage and for the promotion of the positive image of people and places. Tourism can enhance global awareness of the cultural and natural values of destinations, especially those in developing countries (Henderson, 2003; Robinson and Picard, 2006).
