P1 - Understand the different types of hospitality events and understand the characteristics of an event. There are several types of hospitality events such as charity events, parties, governors meetings and open evenings. All hospitality functions are: - promotional events that highlight a good cause or an issue. Some examples of this will be: a dinner for cancer research and an award ceremony. - Business events to a product or a range of services. E.g. launching a new product and an open day at a new retail centre. - And lastly social events. E.g a wedding reception and dinner at a restaurant. Open evenings: Open evenings are mostly held in colleges, schools, restaurants and leisure centres, the main aim is to attract new customers. On open evenings the new visitors are given a tour of the premises and staff will explain the facilities and services. The customer can also sample the products and facilities. The open day that I am going to look at is Governors meetings: Many charitable and non-charitable organisations are controlled by a board of governors or shareholders. A governor is a person that is there to ensure positive and effective development and management in an organisation. Every school, college hospital has a board of governors that meet on a regular basis to discuss the progress of the school. These meetings are usually held by the organisation in order for the governors socially meet and for the organisation to thank the governors for their work. Party: There are different types of parties for different types of occasions. Wedding receptions- wedding receptions can range from a pub lunch to a full course a la carte meal in a big hall.
