Advantage and Disadvantage of Horse Patrol Horse Patrol or also known as Mounted Patrol is defined as are those police who patrol on horseback. During the leadership of (ret) Police Director General Raul Bacalzo, the Philippines National Police are looking to replace motor patrol vehicles and motorbikes in outlying post with horses. Said that horses would reduce costs and solve problems around the rising costs of fuel and spare parts. Horse Patrol were better suited to police mountains areas, where roads amounted to little more than trails. With the advent of technology came the practical elimination of horse in police patrol. Mounted Police were used in all the largest American cities, but with the development of motorcycle and radio car, Horse Patrol has almost disappeared. The expense of keeping horses and training of men to ride them was too great considering their limited uses. In Horse Patrol the added height and visibility that the horses give their riders allow Mounted Police to observe a wider area but it also allow people in wider area to see the officers which helps deter crimes and helps people find them easily for assistance. Horse Patrol were widely used for crowd control, as it is believed to be ratio as one(1) is to (10) police on foot. Yet, we believed that horse being flesh and blood has frailties. A sudden slash of razor, a lighted cigar thrown on its head, or a jagged bottle into its flanks can cause the animal to panic. In a riot horses could easily be killed, throwing his rider into the midst of hostile mob. The use of horses for general patrol in the city is very impractical. The sound of its hoofs against the pavement disallows any chance of arrest during the commission of a crime.
