Chapter 1 Homework Q: a Apply the SDLC approach to Hoosier Burger. Ans: The system development life cycle (SDLS) is a very useful method to develop an efficient information system. This process can be divided in to four steps such as Planning and selection, analysis, design and implementation and operation. This approach can be applied for Hoosier Burger. First, the initial step of the SDLC method is systems planning and selection. In this step, Bob identifies the need for a new or enhanced system. He has noticed many problems with Hoosier Burger`s current information systems, especially with the inventory control, customer ordering and management reporting systems. Now, Bob needs to create written plan for the information systems (IT) department so that they can easily understand the situation. The next step of the SDLC is systems analysis. In this step, the analyst thoroughly studies the Hoosier Burger`s current procedures and the information systems used to perform tasks such as placing orders, recording each orders, tracking inventory, and ordering new items. The information system analyst will determine the requirement of the system and also generate alternative initial design to match the requirements. Next, system design is the third step of the SDLC. The analysts convert the description of the recommended alternative solution into logical and then physical system specification. The analysts team will decide the operating system, network environment and hardware platform the system will run under and best suitable for Hoosier Burger. At last, the final phase of the SDLC is system implementation and operation. In this step, the analysts’ team turns system specification into a working system which is tested and then used. The programmers write the programs that make up system. Then, the program is tested and to find and correct errors. After
