Suicide behavior have been a serious social problem among the world for ages. The causes of suiciding vary between countries, and yet the phenomenon will surely impact the society in many different ways. This essay attempts to illustrate the different causes and the impacts of the suiciding problem among Hong Kong, Japan and Korea. According to the World Health Organization, suiciding rate in the Republic of Korea is the highest throughout the world in 2012 and most of these numbers are made up of the elderly suicides. The major cause of this phenomenon is poverty and financial problems. With the rapid development in the Korea, people are getting more and more wealthier except the elderly. The most concerned subject of committing suicide are students. According to the South China Morning post, there are average 23 suicides in a year between 2010 and 2014. The high-pressure education system is blamed for this incident. Students in Hong Kong have to bear a tremendous pressure from school and their parents. As Hong Kong education system focus too much on score-oriented assignments, which pressuring students paying all their time only to focus on tests. Parents, on the other hand, are influenced by the society, forcing their children to spend hours on tutorial classes every day in order to get greater marks. “Monster parents” is a popular word to describe such kind of parenting style in Hong Kong. On top of spending hours at schools and tutorial classes, parents often force their children to take part in various extracurricular activities in order make the children “better” than the others. Such trend has put a serious pressure on students and causing their depression and choosing to give up their own live as a result.
