Homosexuals in the holocaust. Good afternoon, today I will be discussing homosexuals in the holocaust Homosexuals or today referred to as gays or lesbians were treated extremely poorly during the holocaust. Regardless being a German or not, homosexuals within the Nazi Party itself were murdered along with those innocent people who were locked up in camps, beaten or murdered by the Nazis for the crime of being disabled, gypsies, homosexuals, coloured people, communists, Jehovah Witnesses, Polish Non-Jewish citizens, political prisoners, and anyone else killed for not fitting into the Nazi view of the world. Beginning in 1933, gay organizations were banned, most books having information or teachings about homosexuality were burned down, never to be seen with the eye again. Storm troopers began enforcing orders some of which to shut down same – sex bars and clubs, they would invade and shut them down. The Gestapo gathered lists of homosexuals, who were forced to obey the rules to the "German norm." or have to face the consequences which in the end result was awful. Between 1933–45, an estimated 100,000 men were arrested as homosexuals, Most of these men served time in regular prisons, and an estimated 5,000 to 15,000 of those sentenced were locked up in Nazi concentration camps.[1] Gay men suffered unusually cruel treatment in the concentration camps. They faced persecution not only from German soldiers but also from other prisoners, and many gay men were beaten to death. Additionally, gay men in forced labor camps routinely received more grueling and dangerous work assignments than other non-Jewish inmates, SS soldiers also were known to use gay men for target practice, aiming their weapons at the pink triangles the homosexuals were forced to wear on their outfits.
