According to Homeschooling in the United States, the guidelines for starting a home school in the state of Illinois, you must be between the ages of 7 and 17(or graduated from high school), attain the required instruction for 176 days, and complete the basic core subjects. There is also no teacher requirements listed, which puts me in shock. The requirements for most university teaching programs, one is required to have successfully completed the Basic Skills exam, and have a teaching certification, along with a bachelor’s degree. I feel that there are many benefits of homeschooling, such as flexibility within the curriculum, customized lessons, a lot less distractions, and instant feedback from the instructor; everything is very direct and personal, which could bring a positive view to the learning environment. I feel that some of the disadvantages of homeschooling are that students might not take it as serious as with a regular school program, also the non-interaction between the other students. In order to make sure that students are getting the proper education through homeschooling, I think that there should be some type of system to where they get corporate members come check up on them, or give the students certain tests to make sure that they are learning at their greatest ability. They should be tested in all of the different subject areas, and the instructors should have somewhat of a set curriculum. I think that homeschooling has many advantages and disadvantages.
