Who are the homeless? The Armed Forces represent a large portion of the homeless population in America (roughly 20-25%). Most people don’t consider the factors that contribute to homelessness such as mental illness or armed forces veterans suffering from their own trauma etc. Far too many veterans are homeless in the united state a number that staggers around 130,000 to 200,000 on any given day representing between one fourth and one fifth of all homeless (National Coalition for the Homeless, 2007). Why negative stereotypes have been created for the homeless?

Statistics shows that the cause of homelessness is because the lack of jobs. Others say that it is due to lack of housing. Several people are homeless even though they have a job. This happens because a lot of people work but they don’t make enough money to get above what is called the poverty line. Today’s estimate of fifty percent of the homeless has a full or part time job, but still don’t make enough money to pay their bills.
Jobs are scarce and homes are expensive. A person who cannot find a job often cannot afford a home, and many with jobs cannot afford homes either. Another reason the homeless are over looked is the high rate of mental illness. There are more than 630,000 homeless individuals in the United States and approximately 25% of the homeless population have a severe mental illness. Those with a mental illness are not in a position to search for jobs, purchase or rent a home, or use legal defenses to protect themselves.

Unemployment and low incomes are one of the main reasons for homelessness in the U.S. (Katel).He also states that housing the unemployed is not the best option because its possible that they would use the house as an advantage for drugs. As a result minimum wage increase could help homelessness rate in the United States. A counter is that, “it would lead employers to automate workplaces and reduce job opportunities for the lowest-skilled workers, while doing nothing to reduce poverty” (Mantel) In other words, It would make employers reduce their workforce which would overall increase unemployment (Mantel).
More and more people are dying every day from alcohol related accidents and the sad part is, is that lots who die from alcohol related crashes, are victims. Someone supporting this issue, like me, would feel this way because we want to insure the safety of youths everywhere, and manly on the road. More and more people die every day and I wan to try to take the death rate down a notch. A person opposing this issue would disagree with me because, they would probably like to have youths make mistakes and learn from them, but what I say is, “What if you only have one chance?” An other thing an opponent would say would be to take the Europeans drinking in to thought,
