Home School is a Great Choice Ray Drouillard once said, "The idea is to educate, not follow anyone's schedule about when something should be studied." The quote suggests that a home school does not restrain children to learn in a forced environment, and educate children in a more motivating manner. Home schooling is a way to educate children at home. In home schooling, parents are the ones who tailor their children’s learning program and educate the children themselves. It has been a common trend around the world opting their children’s education for home school than sending them to public school. Recent estimates in United States put the home school population between 1.2 million and 1.6 million and growing at the rate of 10% per year (Houston & Toma, 2003). In Indonesia, homeschooling has been recognized as a form of an alternative education under Education Law 2003 (Rulistia, 2011). This has allowed children who attend home school to have the same rights as the ones who attend public school, since they are enable to take the national exam and continue their way into getting a college degree. Some people who are against home school prefers public school to make sure their children adapt to social environment as they grow up. As public school is open to every household, they can enroll their children to public school to learn in a school environment along with peers. By enrolling in public school, children can experience communication with their peers and develop their social kills. Even though home school does not provide the same experience as public school, it still has more benefits both for the children and the parents. Parents need to choose homeschooling program because it gives more room for them to bond with their children.
