After watching the movie Glory, my thoughts about the Union and the battles had changed. I began to notice that the Union needed more people so they allowed free slaves to help participate in the war. The thing I liked most about this was that black people had the right to fight in wars and got lots of respect from the generals. I felt really good when they were being appreciated just before going in a battle. There were many generals I liked because of their hard work to put their army together.
Setbacks suffered by Americans in World War II The Second World War had a great impact on political, social and economical status of the United States. At the outset of the war, the United States was dormant and with the proceeding of the war, its involvement rose despite the unpreparedness of the military. During this time of war, the corporate government solved most of the production and labor problems. The United States joined the war in 1942 and had many recruits in the military with better war equipments. The war changed the United States in various ways; there were return wages and jobs were available leading to the growth of labor unions.
Those companies couldn’t survive without and just like those companies who relied upon the automobiles success couldn’t grow without the radios growth. By 1930 40% of all Americans owned a radio. Listeners would gather in their living rooms and tune into sporting events (Baseball and Boxing were very popular during this time period and also helped weigh in on the disparity of wealth in the 1920s), concerts, sermons, and the widely popular “Red Menace News”. Advertisements also became very dependent on the radios growth advertising all over the radio to appeal to the listeners. The radios and automotive industry were widely popular because of the use and need for them during World War I.
The move industry also benefited from the war by producing and selling over 2,500 motion pictures during and after the war. The Advertising Council was also formed during the war and conducted hundreds of campaigns in the interest of selling war bonds, gathering blood, conserving food, and to inspire people to enlist. Many of the unemployed that were mobilized were women. Many men were pulled away from their jobs as a result of the war effort, and women had to fill their spots in the work place to keep their families up and running. During this time child labor also increased, and the average family income rose 25% from 1941-1945.
Roosevelt was all about the people. He believed the one thing that can save a nation was the people of the nation itself. That’s why during the WW2, Franklin D Roosevelt spoke constantly on the radio, reporting war events and rallying the American people in support of the war effort. This was beneficial for the people and himself as raising the people’s hope gave him motivation to do better. Franklin D Roosevelt was very clever in a sense.
Conan asks Maria why he interpreters decide to help Americans. Marie answers that most of them do it not only for financial gain but also out of their loyalty to their country. They see the invasion of USA as a positive step for their country and are genuinely interested in helping rebuild it. Conan asks Tariq the same question and his reply is somehow interesting. He believed that Iraq would somewhat be a part of the USA and Americans would rebuild the entire infrastructure such that Iraqis would have the same basic services like good education, food and leisure.
Your family is poor and your mother is ill. Since your nine-month enlistment is up, Washington's men are progressing from hut to hut to find out if soldiers will reenlist or quit. The question asked by this Mini-Q is, ‘Had you been a soldier at Valley Forge, would you have quit?’ I would have quit because the British army had so many advantages and illness was almost unavoidable. The first reason I would quit is because the British were considered the strongest army in the WORLD. In Document A, ‘The Numbers’, it clearly shows that by the end of February, there were only 8,000 soldiers at Valley Forge, half of them ill. An army of 4,000 healthy soldiers, the rest ill, fighting off a strong army of tens of thousands of healthy, well fed soldiers has terrible odds for the Patriots.
The word that can sum up many of the themes in the book is position. The word covers themes like class, wealth, social standing, and others. Social standing was very important in The Great Gatsby. For example, Tom's social standing allowed him to treat everyone, including his own wife, like dirt, except on rare occasions when he felt like being helpful. Gatsby's social standing allowed him to be generous, because everyone expected it of him after attending or hearing about one of his lavish parties.
Men of the 1950’s took pride in their masculinity and being able to provide for their families. With this “American way of life”, both males and females were pressured to live up to what their traditional gender roles entailed. Policymakers and creators of popular culture pointed to traditional gender roles as the best means for Americans to achieve happiness and security . Family life in the suburbs was fundamentally lead by the husband, with his wife supporting him. Women staying at home, and men going to work was simply the norm that the suburb life
Prior to the beginning of World War I the attitude toward war was extremely positive. People were excited about the war and they greeted it with enthusiasm. In Europe they were told it was going to over by Christmas so people weren’t expecting it to be long nor brutal for that matter. The press romanticized the war with various propaganda; so many men enlisted and were very proud to serve. They viewed it as they were going to be heroes and a victory was on its way; and no men wanted to miss the action.
