Patient Overall Analysis Holden Caulfield, seventeen years old, has been admitted to the Psychiatric Ward due to his experiences in life, between his relationships with his family and peers, and the death of his younger brother Allie. It appears that these events have led to him having an antisocial attitude to himself. He does not get involved in many personal relationships with others. His family is not very close to him being he lives so far away from home. His brother, D.B., lives in California as a writer for television and movies. Holden has a younger sister as well who attends school. Holden’s parents have not been mentioned much, and even when he was at home for a short amount of time after Pencey prep, he did not come into the company of his parents much due to their being out mostly every night. Holden has been expelled from each school he has attended, his last school being Pencey prep, as a junior. At his time there, he made the acquaintance of many people, such as Ackley, his suitemate, and his roommate, Stradlater. He has a very personal relationship with his old neighbor, Jane, and has recently lost her friendship due to common growing older and apart. Holden is very separated from others in general and he does not follow through with many actions including others. His words contradict his personality and actions, and it is clear that he is in need of psychiatric help. During Holden Caulfield’s patient evaluation, he explained the time of his life from when he was expelled from Pencey prep to when he had returned home to care for his younger sister, Phoebe. Holden revealed many private thoughts of his and explained his many opinions about different aspects of life. In his interview, Holden explained the acquaintances he made at Pencey prep, and his personal opinions on all of them. The students in this all boys school included Ackley,
