The murder of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was just a prominent cause for the outbreak of the war; yet, there were other causes as well. He was an heir to the throne of Austro-hungry. Gavrilo princip, a member of Black Hand murdered him and his wife. Other causes include militarism, imperialism, alliances and nationalism. Limited resources, population growth and to some extent, differing ideologies that originated from the polis states conflicting economic and socio-political concepts are elements of necessity that continuously influenced the war culture of the ancient Greek worlds. Three basic elements define war; ‘violence, legitimacy and legality’. Nieberg states that ‘all wars are violent’ and are founded on the supposition that force is required to attain a preferred goal; at times lethal force is applied. As such, war must be validated. In the antiquity of Greece war was a fundamental concept to socio-political
Gladiators were trained to play the role of Roman enemies in the arena. They wore an armor that was different from the Roman military armor and used non-Roman weaponry for the combats. The various roles that they played included that of a Thracian, a Secutor, a Retiarius, and a Samnite. They were criminals, prisoners of war, and slaves who were bought by Lanistas and trained in private schools called Ludi to become skilled gladiators. On the eagerly anticipated day when munera were scheduled at the Colosseum or another amphitheater, the gladiators first entered the arena in a colorful parade known as the pompa.
“The outbreak of war in Europe in 1914 was due to an aggressive foreign policy which had been waged since c.1900”. How far do you agree with this opinion? Explain your answer using sources V, W and X and your own knowledge relating to the controversy. The implication that Germany’s use of an aggressive foreign policy led to the outbreak of the First World War is an extremely controversial topic, and has ultimately caused great debates amongst historians. Fischer, the provoker of this controversy, expresses this concept of German aggression by stating that since c.1900 Germany planned, and then was able to execute a war, due to their aggressive weltpolitik; based purely on expansionism.
Since the dawn of civilization, wars have been continuously waged for a variety of reasons. Some like Napoleon have waged war for power, glory and conquest. Others have declared war to maintain peace and balance. The fact of the matter is that to disagree, confront and ultimately wage war is part of human nature. One very important activity that was included in the play is the sport of fencing or sword fighting. There are examples of this during the opening skirmish in act one (Probst 773), when Tybalt kills Mercutio who is later slain by Romeo (Probst 821), and when Romeo kills Paris in front of Juliet’s tomb (Probst 867). Possessing considerable fencing skills was not only respectable in the Elizabethan Era; it was required of most if not all males of noble decent. This means that Romeo, Tybalt, Mercutio, and all the other males were either very skilled fencers or training to become exceptional fencers. To be able to become a skilled swordsman a person had to endure years of rigorous training.
In the Middle Ages, both attacking and defending castles were challenging tasks. People used a number of techniques to attack their enemies as well as they used even more tricks to defend their medieval castles. Let us look at the most popular ways applied by medieval warriors to attack their enemies’ castles and defend their own castles. Then, let us discuss an unusual way of attacking Macbeth’s castle used by Malcolm in Shakespeare’s tragedy. Making a castle unconquerable was the main task of medieval castle builders.
Professional wrestling takes the form of events, held by touring companies, which mimic a title match combat sport. The unique form of sport portrayed is fundamentally based on classical and "catch" wrestling, with modern additions of striking attacks, strength-based holds and throws, and acrobatic maneuvers; much of these derive from the influence of various international martial arts. An additional aspect of combat with improvised weaponry is sometimes included to varying degrees. The matches have predetermined outcomes in order to heighten entertainment value, and all combative maneuvers are worked in order to lessen the chance of actual injury. These facts were once kept highly secretive but are now a widely accepted open secret.

As were his relentless and unforgiving attacks, he pursued the Austrian’s back into Austria which was seen as intolerable by the allies and so the Austrians sued for peace. Differences in warfare became inevitable, and made thinking and ideas very important. The nations were introduced to new weapons such as poison gas, machine guns, submarines, airplanes, more advanced artillery, and tanks ( Prior, Wilson 129). Each of these weapons changed a certain part of warfare and how the armies of the war would defeat their enemy. World War I had been sparked by many reasons, long term and short term. The ultimate long term reason for the war was the unification of Germany in 1871.
