history 0f snowmachines Did you Know that man had mastered flight before he mastered over the snow travel (Taylor)? The challenge of transporting people and goods across snow is what pushed the invention of the snowmobile, but before the snowmobile they made a modified model t ford with tracks on the back tires and skis latched onto the front, Canada had an advanced model of the model t snow rover theirs had two wheels in the back and they replaced the front tires with skis. (“snowmobile”). When the first snowmobile ever was made is questionable, however we do know that the first marketed and patented snowmobile was built in 1917, and it was ten feet long with a big sled type trailer thing to pull logs it was hard of steering and it had a habit of sinking through the snow, as you probably already know the modern day snowmobile has skis in the front to provide steering with a track which was made of rubber (now its made out of kevlar) in the back to provide power. (“snowmobile”) The first patent was by Carl J. Eliason, and it came out in 1927, and was made out of recycled bike parts, skis and a small engine. From that time onwards inventors rushed to get their patents in. In The 60’s there were thirteen patents granted that ranged from sleds to Karl Lochs motor airplane, all of which were considered the ancestors of the modern snowmobile (Allyson). In 1955 Polarise made a great commitment to the single tracked snowmobile yet failed to the development and testing of the single track snowmobile, but failed to to take the leap forward when they were hit by the problems with the comet (Allyson). Joseph-Armand Bombardier was the person who really got things going for the snowmobiles, he designed, produced and marketed his Ski-doo sled in 1959.
