The History of Music in Movies Music has been a part of movies for generations now. Many people grew up seeing musical movies or just hearing music while viewing a film. Music first made its appearance in movies in the Late 1890 ’s in silent films. Music was huge in silent films because the talking picture had not yet been invented so all people heard was the music. Charlie Chaplin was a huge silent movie star who scored his own music. Charlie Chaplin had hit movies like City Lights(1931), A Woman of Paris(1923) and Modern Times(1936). With the creation of talking pictures in the 1930’s music started to dim down a little but music was still a driving force in Hollywood. Through many years Musical Movies had become a sensation creating Some of the most popular Musical movies such as Show Boat(1951), The Wizard of Oz(1939), Singin’ in the Rain(1952) and so many more. Musicals were top movies in hollywood for more than 40 years and today still are a popular thing to create. People just enjoy having Music, Singing and acting all in one. From Musical Movies came great Composers and lyricist such as Rodgers and Hammerstein, Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe, Alan Menken. Music in modern day movies is used as a background focus and enhances the emotion of content in the action that is happening between characters. There are many great modern composers such as Hans Zimmer, Michael Giacchino, and Danny Elfman. These composers have created songs or orchestrations that bring people more into the movie and action that is happening throughout the movie. Music has made it’s appearance in movies through different ways throughout history. Music has impacted Hollywood and movies that want to secure audiences. History has changed the way music is added in movies and has changed the way people think of movies as these days. Silent films started in 1895 in the movie
