The Italian Renaissance art is usually referred to the rebirth of art in Europe between 1400 and 1600. It started in Italy, in the city state of Florence. The Renaissance art was inspired by ancient Greece and Rome with the central idea of Humanism. Later on, trade and commerce brought the Italian ideas northward. Along with the invention of the printing press in the mid-fifteenth century, the Renaissance artistic developments spread to other parts of Europe and started the creation of the Northern Renaissance.
The Renaissance Era (14th to 16th century) was a rebirth of the ideals, scientific curiosity, and individualism of the Greeks and Romans. It began in Florence in the late Medieval period. It experimented with intense emotion of the bodies and the faces. They tried to make it as real as possible. Many individuals were gifted with artistic skill and creativity.

Religion had a stronghold on the people that they were reluctant to let its value descend but became entranced in more open-minded ideals. Thus, the Italian Renaissance started a wave of new individualized concepts scientifically, politically, economically; and socially. The birth of new ideals and concepts from Italy gradually became of interest in Northern Europe. The sale of vast amounts of materials from Italy caused Northern Europeans to like Italian artistry and humanistic ways which they cultivated into their own culture.

People who dwelled in Italy between 1450 and 1550 were convinced that they were witness to the rebirth of antiquity or otherwise known as the Greco-Roman civilization that would mark the beginning of a new age. It was common for them to acknowledge also, that the dark middle ages were very lax in their regards to a classical culture. Included in this rebirth would be the perfection of the individual and also the secularism or worldliness of the Italians.

During this time period, nationalism swept through Europe transforming the countries of the continent. What makes nationalism this most powerful force of Europe during this time was the creation of new nations such as Germany and Italy which were formed by uniting smaller states with a common national identity. Nationalism affected every nation in this time period in one form or another. All in all nationalism would create change throughout Europe and overall it would learn that nationalism is force to be reckoned with even to this day.
Northern Renaissance Art Art thrived in Northern Europe, especially in Germany and the Low Countries, in the fifteenth centuries. Renaissance theories began to change, painting, sculpture, and architecture. Renaissance theories spanned nearly the fourteenth through the sixteenth centuries and believed by some as the rise of modern history. Particularly in Italy classical themes in art and literature, had a return to realistic portrayal of nature through careful observation, and the restoration of Greek philosophy of humanism, in which human dignity, ideas, and capabilities are the focus. In each country took Renaissance concepts and adapted them to contemporary art forms to create unique forms of Renaissance classicism.
