Nursing philosophy “identifies what is believed to be the basic or central phenomena of the discipline, relates nursing to a particular world view, and provides some information on how one may come to learn about the world”. (p. 13, Salsberry, 2008). My personal philosophy of nursing evolved over the years and includes my observations, beliefs, thoughts, and practices. This scholarly nursing journal called 'Constructing nurses' profession identity through social identity theory'(Dec,2012) by Georgina Willetts and David Clarke is a reliable peer-reviewed article because of the writer's credentials ,the number of references they have used, the structure and the relevance of the content. In between 1960s and 1980s, transition phase to recognize nursing as a profession was initiated by shifting nursing studies from hospital training environment to educational institutions in North America, UK, New Zealand and Australia. Thirty years since nursing profession has been recognized as a profession but still nurses are facing difficulties while describing their professional identity and there is a doubt regarding whether it is really a profession. So the article has put forward the social identity theory (SIT) as a important framework for research, to shed light and define nurses' professional identity. Since SIT was first introduced, it has set a long-standing research framework with its verified facts from different contexts to support its thesis.
Historical Development of Nursing Timeline Tiffany C. Dovgan NUR/513 October 15, 2012 Dolores Diehl Historical Development of Nursing Timeline The discipline or practice of nursing has developed over time and many nursing theorists contributed to the professional practice as we know it today. Nursing theories provide structure to the critical thinking and decision- making processes. Theory, research and applications to clinical practice are symbiotic as new concepts, practices and empirical data emerge professional practice changes or evolves. Florence Nightingale’s writings originating in 1859 are considered the first nursing theories postulated. She is known for decreasing mortality rates in hospitals during the Crimean War (George, 2011).
Historical Perspective Essay The Adaptation Model of Nursing was developed over 40 years ago by a nursing theorist Castilla Roy, is used in many fields of nursing especially areas of humanities and human science. Nursing theory provides the structural framework necessary for practice and helps to further nursing knowledge providing an understanding of the scientific process, and the nurse’s role in the health care setting (Colley, 2003). According to Shosha and Kalaldeh (2012) Roy’s model provided the nursing profession with a framework to help further model-based research with a methodological soundness not yet known to the profession. This essay will explain that Roy’s early model of adaptation has contributed to research and nursing development more than some other theorists of her time and significantly helped to shape our nursing practice and the profession. Contribution to Research and Nursing Development From a historical perspective Roy’s Adaptation Model (RAM) is one of the most useful conceptual frameworks backed by years of research that has guided nursing practice.

Nursing Knowledge Resources Within the past decade, several nursing resources have become available to support nursing research and advance nursing practice. This paper will describe important benefits of two organizations and their contribution to evidence-based nursing practice. Founded in 1922, The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to “improve the health of people worldwide through leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research” (STTI, n.d., p.2). As a leader in the development and communication of knowledge to improve nursing practice, STTI became the first U.S. organization to fund nursing research in 1936. The Society has adopted a position statement on evidence-based nursing practice (EBNP) that supports the concept that optimal nursing care is provided when nurses and healthcare decision makers have access to the latest research.
Within each of the roles of scholarship are the nursing core values of caring, integrity, diversity, and excellence (NLN). The scholarship of knowing seeks to build on the current foundation of nursing knowledge through the identification and research of health issues. Empirical and historical research, theory development, and methodological studies, generate new knowledge that forms the basis for new nursing theories and evidence-based practice. The APN scholarship of teaching assimilates new and existing knowledge, and transfers this information from expert to novice, teacher to student, and healthcare provider to the patient. The APN may teach by role modeling, or mentoring of students and new nurses.
NUR/403 University of Phoenix Nursing Philosophy A nursing philosophy is a conceptual model or framework providing a guide of reference for nurses to direct thinking, observations, interpretations, and practices (Seedhouse, 2000, p. 155). Since the work of Florence Nightingale there have been many nursing philosophies and theories or “specific framework designed to organize knowledge and explain phenomena in nursing” (“The Free Dictionary”, 2013). Today these theories have been put to use in nursing practice around the world. Although the approach to nursing care may be different in each theory, the concepts within each theory are parallel. Many nursing theorist have devised a different way of approaching patient care by defining the meaning of each part of the nursing metaparadigm: the nurse, the environment, the patient, and health.
