Sala BS Bio 3C Pre-Med February 11, 2015 Reflection Paper Engaging students like us in fieldtrips specifically to an educational one are one of the ways for us to learn something new and interesting in a particular field of study. Our trip in SEAFDEC is worth the risk. The place was not new to me anymore since I’d been there two years ago under the supervision of Dr. Torre. I’m with my closest friends during that time. The first thing we did when we arrived there was to have a group picture which will serve as a souvenir from the place. Taking pictures with the specimen there was a frequent practice by almost all of us. Then, we proceeded to the viewing room for a video presentation concerning SEAFDEC’s policies, objectives and goals which is also a common approach of the institution for its visitors. After such, we walk our way to the milk fish propagation beds wherein one of SEAFDEC’s employees lectured us about their methods of propagating those fishes from eggs to fully matured fishes. The astonishing fact I’d learned from the talk was that those gigantic milk fishes were a couple of years older to us. The best part of the trip for me was during the demonstration and lecture regarding animal tissue processing inside the micro technique lab. Aside from the very welcoming employees there, I was amazed by the way they execute their corresponding jobs. They taught us of the different chemicals used for tissue preparations. In addition, I witnessed the various techniques utilized in tissue processing specifically on how the microtome works. It gave me the idea on how to process the remaining tissue when we do it ourselves. It was very informative indeed. The next stop we had is in Garin Farm. It was my first time to visit the place.
