Shannon Velie Astronomy 1002 Dr. Paul Martin 8/6/2014 Highlights of Saturn Saturn has some amazing and beautiful features that you can see with the view through a telescope. The planet has some interesting things that have awed people on how they formed or got there. One of those things is the Hexagonal Storm, this storm is very interesting to scientists’ because the storm has six perfect sides therefore it looks like a hexagon, hints the name Hexagonal Storm. But scientists’ have yet to figure out the cause of the six sided storm. Cassini a NASA spacecraft took its newest view of Saturn's polar vortex on Nov. 23, 2013. The vortex in the storm is about 20,000 miles (30,000 km) across and is a jet stream made up of 200 mph winds (322 km/h) surrounding a huge storm. NASA officials have said. Scientists have not found another weather feature exactly like this anywhere in the solar system. More than the Hexagonal storm there is Saturn’s rings. This feature makes Saturn, it is the most iconic part of Saturn. Galileo Galilei discovered the rings with his telescope in 1610. Detailed study by the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft in the 1980s only increased the mystery. There are billions of ring particles in the entire ring system. The rings are believed to be pieces of comets, asteroids or shattered moons that broke up before they reached the planet. With a thickness of about one kilometer (3,200 feet) or less, they span up to 282,000 km (175,000 miles), about three quarters of the distance between the Earth and its Moon. The rings where named in alphabetical order from when they were discovered The main rings are, working outward from the planet, known as C, B and A. The information from the NASA's Cassini mission will help reveal how they formed, how they maintain their orbit and, above all, why they are there in the first place. The Auroras are one of
