Although a high school English class and a college English class help to develop a student into becoming an efficient writer, they also have various differences. When students first enter college they’re often puzzled by the differences between high school English and college English. College and high school English are different in their expectations, the amount of work given, and the grading. The expectations in a college English class go beyond the expectations in a high school English class. In high school the teacher does not expect a student to know how to put together a proper essay with the proper format, punctuation or headings. Many teachers spend most the year teaching students how to do all of those things. Unlike in college were from the time I start class the professor expects you know all the proper grammar, headings, formats, and different types of essay writing. Although not all students go into college with that knowledge. This is due to the difference in expectations between high school and college. More importantly, college work and papers are due the day that was stated. In high school many teachers extend due dates and are lenient with handing in work late. While professors in college expect work due on the dates due no exceptions. Transitioning from high school to college English is tough for most students because of the expectations in college exceed these in high school. The work given in college english class is much greater than the work given in high school English. In high school English many teachers give an assignments or essay monthly with a couple of weeks to complete it. On the other hand, in a college English class a professor will give a assignment every class due the next class. This makes the students focus more on getting the task done instead of procrastinating. College students are required to read, understand and use
