High school and college are complete opposite from each other, literally. In high school there are so many limitations to what you can and cannot do. Classes and time are structured and arranged by others; while college on the other hand is freedom. Everything is done on your own, from picking classes and arranging the schedule. The choice of even going to college is entirely one’s own choice. High school is like a mother holding her child’s hand helping her child cross the street into another street called college. College itself prepares one for the future, a future with no mommy and daddy to hold your hand or guide you. I can recall my first day of high school like it was yesterday. Faculty and teachers were right that the four years of high school will be over before we know it. All freshmen were asked to report to the auditorium in which we were told according to the first letter of our last name to what room we had to go. This room is known as home room, a place that we will go to get our schedules. Excited, eager and nervous as I was, I sat in my home room class with familiar faces, faces that I can recall seeing in middle school and other faces that I had never seen. My home room teacher began to go over dress codes that are considered inappropriate for school. Dress codes such as; pajamas/sleepwear, athletic and workout clothes including spandex and yoga pants, headgear of any sort unless worn for religious reasons, jackets or other outdoor wear worn in class, footwear that can be considered a safety hazard to students (e.g. flip flops, slides, heels) strapless shirts, tank tops and the list goes on. I sat there trying to analyze all that had been said, with a confused face I look down at my flip flops and wonder how can these shoes am wearing be a safety hazard, and how can they be a safety hazard to kids aged 15-18 in the first place?
