High on Life : Why Marijuana Should be Legal Drugs are a major part of society and culture. Some drugs can have helpful characteristics, like marijuana. Marijuana can help people with certain illnesses relieve pain or gain an appetite. Also, it would severely[a] help the economy. Making marijuana legal would also critically help cut down drug-related crimes and offenses. These are just a few of the many reasons as to why America, as a whole, should make marijuana legal. “Cannabis, another name for marijuana, has been used by people with advanced forms of cancer, HIV/AIDS, anxiety, depression, obsession, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and chronic pain,” (Disabled World). It has been known to give sufferers of cancer and HIV/AIDS an appetite and reduce nausea and vomiting that their illnesses and treatments cause. People with chronic pain and sclerosis are relieved from pain while under the influence of marijuana. Ingredients in marijuana help relax and relieve stress that sufferers from anxiety, depression, and obsession encounter every day. Some people think that marijuana can be addictive, has health risks as well as benefits, but believe the risks could outweigh said benefits. Though marijuana can be addictive, so can anything if too much is consumed. Medical marijuana has health risks; sodo cigarettes and alcohol, which are perfectly legal, but have no health benefits like medical marijuana does. Also, it has been known to relieve the pain from scoliosis and chronic migraines. This country, as a whole, needs to realize the benefits of legal marijuana. Legalizing the use of all forms of marijuana, experts show, would help cut the more than $1.3 trillion deficit that the United States is currently facing.
