The High Museum

Surprisingly during my visit to the High Museum there were several things about the museum and about the art that impressed me. Upon arriving at the museum I was immediately impressed by the design of the building itself. The linear exterior design made the building clean, modern and inviting. The building seemed to be exactly what one would expect of a building housing various works of contemporary and modern art. As I looked over her drawings, all done with a mixture of crayons and pencil on paper, I was confounded at how the childlike drawings would be given such accolade. It made me wonder, the consideration entailed that determined these drawings value. I looked over them and thought, wow my daughter draws better then this person and yet I doubt they’d display her artwork at a museum. While I realize her work spoke directly of her time and life experience, which in itself is compelling, I found her work extremely rudimentary and juvenile. I left the High Museum with a different appreciation for art. Albeit, I would not have been working as hard to absorb or critic each piece if I weren’t a student on assignment. But am very thankful for the assignment, I got so much more from viewing the various works because of this class then I would’ve
