I personally loved the Personages and the Cells. Bourgeois' Personages were her first pieces that made me stare, think and pay attention. I was never a big fan of sculptures. But I must say, Louise’s Personages doesn’t need an explanation - the sculptures speaks for itself. Bourgeois’s work of art moved me, I was even more enthralled when I read about her life and the process of creating her work - the love, emotions, life experiences that went into her art.
Linda Cheung Professor Bender Intro to World Art Paper Assignment 13 October 2011 Portrait of Tomas Garrigue Masaryk by Oskar Kokoschka I suppose you could say that what captivated me at first glance was the color used and the vitality thus brought out of the “Portrait of Tomas Garrigue Masaryk” by Oskar Kokoschka. Due to the pigmentation of this particular piece of art, I was initially drawn to it from across the room. However, as I approached it and gave closer inspection towards this artwork, I discovered that there were various other elements to take in as well. Easily depicted in this painting is an important figure, which can obviously be deduced to being Tomas Garrigue Masaryk, in the middle. Behind him to his right sits a man who has his hand placed on Masaryk’s arm, and behind Masaryk’s left are images of a civilization.
The force and power must be in it; the glory of pride and exaltation must be in it” (206). Sullivan clearly illustrated this in The Prudential Building; it involved a simple geometric form decorated with ornamentation based on an organic symbolism. (See Image 1) The building’s intricate terra cotta ornamentation, for example, accentuates its horizontal structure. This gives the building the look and feel of a stone but the material is comparatively lightweight and inexpensive. Since Sullivan was very much interested in the safety of a building, he chose terra cotta over several building material, because of its versatility and durability.

All this information and observation plays an important part so that the photographer can make a sensitive image. I always read a great deal about the person I'm going to photograph. I imbue myself with their contribution to the world” (Bishop, Karsh, “Paris Voice”). Everyone was impressed with his amazing choice in lighting. “Karsh would set up one or two lamps behind the subject to build up rim lighting, though in his case he brought the lamps further round to the sides than most people did”, (said by a history photo observer; Yousuf Karsh, Photo.net).
“A Journey Through The Old Testament” SUMMARY: For many Christians the Old Testament is daunting and confusing. The books are long and speak about a culture dramatically different form our own. This wonderful book by Elmer L. Towns, “A Journey Through the Old Testament” does not substitute for reading the Old Testament, but Mr. Towns has provided a wonderful “journey” in understanding the people of the Old Testament and a view of the Coming Messiah. His works speak to the intellect as well as to the heart of how God prepared the world in His image – and His hope for mankind.
Religious Icon Paintings Are religious icon paintings an art that you would enjoy? A religious icon painting is of a religious event, place, or person. Generally the icons are of the cross, angles, Jesus, Mary, or saints. These paintings often tell a story through their design. An interesting thing to think about is that nearly everything inside the image has symbolic significance.
Against all of their struggles of having this secretive relationship both Vermeer and Griet were able to increase their knowledge and love of painting and produce a beautiful, simplistic yet powerful painting of Griet as the girl with a pearl earring. Griet worked for a family whose way of life was quite different from that of her own. She had to adapt to, and stay strong in a very chaotic atmosphere that stemmed from Vermeer and his wife right down to the other maids. Besides that she had to deal with the sexual advances from one Vermeer’s clients, Van Ruijven, who was the reason behind the painting of a girl with a pearl earring and who also seemed to trouble anything with a pulse. With all of that going on she still tried to keep her budding romance with the butcher’s son alive.
“The crafts also emerged as splendid fine arts, as seen in pictorial tapestries, gold and silver show-piece tableware, and glazed ceramics, among other mediums. All the arts of personal display cut velvet and brocade gowns and robes, chains and jewels of state can be studied in portraits.” (Stokstad, 2008 pg. 740) The Protestants were able to put their beliefs on display in art. Artist developed a new subject or adopted traditional ones, to reflect and
The life of Christ in Mark’s Gospel evidently accounts the humble and just acts of Jesus Christ on earth. Jesus was seen as an activist, a teacher and a healer. He touched the lives of many people in sickness, taught us the ways of faith and challenged the position of other people of power at the time. The ministries of Jesus teach us relevant lessons not only for the people that were living the New Testament but also for catholics to reflect on today. Mark’s Gospel has a vast number of examples portraying Jesus as a leader of new teachings.
