This helps lend credibility to the statement “It is not what you know but who you know”. With this in mind it is necessary for job seekers to develop a plan to penetrate the hidden job market and open themselves up to a wider array of opportunities. Directions: 1. Utilizing the ideas presented of “Push”, “Pull”, and “Maintain” and integrating internet/library research develop your own personal strategy to find unadvertised opportunities. You must present at least two solid ideas in each area. 500-750 words. Discovering the hidden job market has opened my eyes. I found out about the ways to get into jobs that are not advertised through normal means. Utilizing the tools of “Push”, “Pull”, and “Maintain” will prove to be helpful to me. I did find a lot of useful suggestions on the website but I have come up with some of my own ideas to get into the hidden job market. I do not see many opportunities looking at the suggestions for volunteering, media and press, and real and virtual groups for the “Push” method, except for the last. So I developed a strategy of my own. I decided to print out an ad for myself, sort of like a resume, and posting it in every bathroom stall at potential employers’ work places. This ad will have a picture of me and list all of the important things I can bring to the job.
