Contessa Redd Week 6 Assignment June 11, 2012 Part I: Hidden Job Market Assignment The push technique reaches out to potential employers and potential coworkers. The two push techniques I would use to reach out to the “Hidden Job Market” would be volunteering; which is one of the most effective ways to reach out to help a cause ( or a candidate) important to you, and using social networking websites (eg, Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin). Volunteering can be a great way to add new skills and experiences to your resume, meeting new people with whom you share things in common, and doing something good for a good cause. For example, I would volunteer to help out at a local nursing home by spending time with the residents and if there was a position available and I possess the required skills and education for that position then that would be a great way to tap into the “Hidden Job Market”. Social Networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Linkedin are becoming more popular as ways to connect with people you know and those you don’t know. These sites work by offering people the ability to create, or to manage a public profile telling people who they aree and what they do and reaching out to friends and colleagues to enable them to reach people they may need to contact for their businesses, their job, or their search. One way I would use Facebook to help me tap into the “Hidden Job Market” would be to ask those who are my friends, family, or who I have become acquainted with if they know of any leads or company’s who may be hiring but who are not advertising. These days everyone is trying to find job-leads, find sales-leads, find any kind of lead! However, if you use the “pull method” of marketing, employers will come to you.
