Holocaust As much as we complain about how terrible life is, none compare to the Jews during the Holocaust. Up until their death or escape, prisoners' lives were characterized by constant fear, mistreatment and suffering. I have chosen to write my essay on the Holocaust because it is my favorite event that has happened in history. Before starting my essay I will be informing you on what exactly the Holocaust is. During the Holocaust the Jewish population consisted of over nine million. Most European Jews lived in countries that Nazi Germany would occupy or influence during World War II. The Germans killed nearly two out of every three European Jews as part of the Final Solution (the systematic plan to eliminate all Jews). As Nazi’s began to spread across Europe, the Germans persecuted and murdered millions of other people. Between two and three million Soviet prisoners of war were murdered or died of starvation, disease, neglect, or maltreatment. From the earliest years of the Nazi ruling, German authorities persecuted homosexuals and others whose behavior did not meet normal living behavior. The person responsible for this tragedy was Adolf Hitler. As a child, Hitler was disrespectful, moody, lazy and hostile toward his father. Hitler’s mother died of cancer when he was 19 years of age. He left school at the age of 16 in hopes of becoming a painter. When he left for Vienna in 1907 he stayed for five years and began to build up the hatred for Jews. By November 1921 Hitler was recognized as Fuhrer of 3,000 members. In 1930 the Nazi election jumped 18.3 percent. Hitler only became stronger, smarter, and more controlling as time went on. As a dictator of Germany, Hitler wanted to increase and strengthen the German army as well as expand Germany's territory. Although these things broke the terms of the Treaty of Versailles, other countries allowed him to do so.
