Ordinary Heroes When I think of heroes, I think of those who possess extraordinary, super-human, characteristics such a super speed, strength, and invulnerability. I believe firefighters, police officers, and soldiers who possess such qualities are real life heroes in our society. However on September 11 2001, most of the men and women who saved lives of others were ordinary citizens who displayed courage and demonstrated self-sacrifice in the face of a terrifying crisis. For example, the passengers of Flight 93 on 9/11 demonstrated incredible courage and self-sacrifice by fighting back at the armed hijackers and bringing down the plane before crashing into the White House. The six pillars of characteristics are trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Trustworthiness is being honest and loyal to your family, friends, and your country. Respect is being tolerant and accepting differences of others. Responsibility is being accountable for your actions, words, and attitude. Fairness is being open minded and giving everyone an equal chance. Caring is being kind and compassionate toward other people. Lastly citizenship is cooperating in school and community. Also these characteristics can represent a hero because this shows that the heroes are charismatic and responsible in their own lives. The way we should react to crisis is to stay calm and get a grip of the situation. Also you should think through what you should do at the situation. For the 9/11 situation the best way to avoid the plane crash was to fight over the terrorist like what the passengers did on Flight 93 bringing down the plane into a piece of land. We can prepare for these tragedies by researching what to do in these kinds of situations and be always being ready to expect the unexpected.
