It helps to keep one’s mind fresh and with new ideas on how to deal with issues which I face during my sessions with a client. Self-awareness develops over a period of time and with experience. With time one can learn strategies to help in the development of self awareness so that personal thoughts and experiences does not affect this. Knowledge that is gained through personal experience can sometimes be a barrier when working but if one is personally aware of this, it helps to remove any barrier. It also question one’s own personal values, awareness and beliefs.
Also I may lack skills or knowledge to be aware of what else you should be doing or other ways in which I might work. Feedback may come from a variety of sources, including parent and colleagues as well as early year’s advisers. For this qualification, I may also be given feedback from my assessor Joy. Feedback works best if I trust the people it comes from and if they feel that they can give me an honest view. It is a skill in itself to be able to listen to feedback carefully without becoming defensive.

Allowing individuals to make their own choices and decisions, respecting their views will gain their self esteem and will help them recognise their own rights and values which will protect them from being abused. It can also help create relationships between staff and residents so they gain somebody to confide in. * Encouraging active participation This promotes inclusion, making an individual feel some self-worth. Will promote confidence and will also help gain friendships.
Always be sensitive and understanding, you may have to adjust or adapt what you want to say by ensuring you say it the right way to convey your message, your feelings or ensure opinions are expressed clearly with no misunderstanding without giving offence to the individual. As a practitioner you should provide encouragement to children and parents, reassurance and any necessary information. Some individuals are quite confident to voice their feelings or opinions openly, others may be less able to express their views. If the latter you may need to observe body language, facial expressions and what they don’t say to show you how they are feeling so that you can use this to communicate effectively with them. Another reason it may be hard to verbally communicate is if English is not their first language and you will have to use body language and maybe actions, especially to help the children understand what you are saying, and also speak very clearly in a friendly tone.
I make sure that I am clear on instructions, times, dates or location and if appropriate I like to have it written down. I aim to make positive and lively conversation to promote the interest in conversation. It is important to be confident as if you are nervous you can sometimes create barriers making communication difficult. Eye contact shows that you are listening and are interested in what the person has to say. I try to be polite and friendly in order to create trust, people feel that you are approachable and tend to communicate better when they trust you.

When a dilemma arises, my responsibility is to support individuals or their families to make informed choices. Even if I disagree with their decision, I can only give advice but can not force them. If an individual is willing to do something that involves some risk, I have to support people to make informed choices. Totally avoiding risks would limit individual’s choices and opportunities and it can lead to dependency and depression. I have to act in the person’s best interest but instead of encouraging them to avoid risks I have to support them and enable them to taking part in activities.
This may be due to being to comfortable in his role or the uncertainty of change. A positive response and attitude may come from someone who likes change. For instance some one has been asked to join a new cost saving program at work, this may create a positive attitude for the person and he will feel a valued member of the team. The positives of having good team cohesion is that you are making friends through this and getting to know people well and also you have people to help you if you get stuck or you can help them out. The negatives is that you may become too close to people so then you could being messing around in your job and also you might start leaving people out. Team goals Team goals must be clear and realistic for the team to be able to succeed. If the team goals are unclear then the goals wouldn’t be understood by the team so therefore the team wouldn’t know how or what they would have to do or task to achieve the goal.
