1. Preface ‘Healthy life’ – what does it signify? Well, it depends on people’s perception; different people would define it in different manners, but I define it as a disease free life – if you want to live healthy, you better be disease free. Being disease free calls for getting rid of the root causes that bring about those diseases; therefore, all endeavors must be put towards wiping out the root causes. In this regard, going more specific, I want to discuss about obesity, my motivation of this research. Obesity, resulting from excess body weight, is one of the major root causes that bring numerous deadly diseases in one’s life, turning it into disease full and in turn, unhealthy. The remedy hereof is exercising or dieting or the both and thereby, keeping body weight under control from one’s very adolescence. However, the nature and external environment of today’s youth have changed considerably such that it is imperative to find out the optimum way amongst these three alternatives. This entire research, in effect, is a little effort towards finding that optimum way. 2. Research Scope 2.A. Obesity Defined Obesity is label for ranges of weight that are greater than what is generally considered healthy for a given height. The term also identifies ranges of weight that have been shown to increase the likelihood of certain diseases and other health problems. For people aged 20 or above, obesity ranges are determined by using weight and height to calculate a number called the “body mass index” (BMI). BMI is used because, for most people, it correlates with their amount of body fat. The metric formula used to calculate one’s BMI is as follows – BMI = Weight in Kilograms / (Height in Meters) 2 E.g. for a person aged 20 or above, who is of 5' 9'' of height, BMI & the corresponding ranges of weight would be like the following –
