Healthful eating is a substantial key for maintaining and restoring human vitality; being that it supplies all nutrients our bodies need in order to function properly. Many of us are aware of this important information, but either ignore it or have no idea where to begin. With the large variety of foods we have to choose from, it is a wonder why it is so hard to maintain a healthful eating lifestyle. Healthy food gives us the energy for everything we do−talking, walking, working, playing, reading and even thinking and breathing. Eating nutritious food does more than keep us alive and healthy. It also adds pleasure to living. It is truly up to us whether we want to live lengthy healthy lives, or suffer the consequences of deficient eating habits. In America, the society we live in makes it inordinately difficult to eat healthy, well balanced meals everyday. We enjoy the flavors, aromas, colors, and textures that come with food. We even celebrate holidays and special occasions such as Thanksgiving and weddings with our favorite meals and feasts. According to the New York Times, our nation is battling an obesity pandemic and a “hard to break” taste for over sweetened and over salted dishes. Somehow few ordinary and struggling families are led to believe that fresh, nutritious foods are delicacies to be savored by the wealthy especially since the introduction of organic foods. This is just one of the many excuses we have for not eating healthy. Organic foods have been around for a while but are starting to gain popularity. The United States Department of Agriculture recommends these foods along with United States President Obama, nutritionists, celebrities and other cultures around the world.
