For this discussion board I’m choosing Michael Perry essay “Health Secrets from the Morgue.” I personally found this essay very interesting for a number of reasons. I first and foremost enjoyed how Perry wrote this essay, he wrote about his own during this whole ordeal and gave a lot of great examples on the causes and effects of what we do to our bodies. I thought Dr. Stier, the doctor who performed the autopsy, while Mr. Perry overlooked and watched was a genius and very remarkable. They were like detectives trying to find clues or evidence to the reason the man died at only 40 years of age. It was very interesting and quite remarkable the care and steps that the doctor took cutting parts of body, and inspecting each and every part. The doctor was came off so smart to me, explaining in great detail why he was doing what and what could be the cause or couldn’t be the cause of the death. For example when he was cutting and sucking fluid from the eyeballs, he explained that this can tell him whether or not there is drug or alcohol use. The doctor explains that his autopsies have helped prevent diseases and death threatening causes from all types of things like food and nutrition. After completing the autopsy they decided that it was carbon monoxide poisoning because they found nothing unusual in any parts of the body, but the man died working on his car. I found this story so inspiring because the author Perry said he was changed for life he after watching and taking part in the autopsy. Perry stated that “tomorrow I’m going to get a full checkup by my doctor to see if my veins look like a 60 year old man’s” because Dr. Stier said that there may be no cause of death some people just die for unknown
