The 2010 IOM report also puts a light on the importance of nurse as a leader . Nurses should take part and act as full partners in redesigning the future of health care with physicians and others in the health care team. Be accountable for the care delivered and efforts to improve at all levels to avoid and prevent errors from happening. Today we need more nurses as leaders in fields of policy making advisory boards to local and federal levels and in legislative levels ,to bring forward ideas to improve health care system and there by ensuring the safety and health of our patient and community
Using Pender's Health Promotion Theory is a great way to implement education in the care of patients. Education, treatment and prevention of diseases and/or their co-morbidities are the foundations of nursing practice. The current standards are encouraging education and prevention as a means to save money individually by the patient, by the hospitals, by the state, and nationally. With health care reform at the forefront of everyone's mind prevention and health promotion is of the utmost importance. References American Heart Association Website.
Implementing electronic health records improves patient care and safety. The development of the Meaningful Use Program was to initiate a nationwide exchange of health information to improve health outcomes and reduce costs. Benefits of using the electronic health records include; less paperwork for patient and providers, improved quality of care, reduce risk of medical errors, and reduced healthcare costs (Chin & Sakuda, 2012). The adoption and implementation of Meaningful Use of EHRs will improve health outcomes, increase transparency and efficiency, and ability to produce evidence based research to continue to improve patient care and safety at a national level (Chin & Sakuda, 2012). Furthermore, the development of Meaningful Use of EHRs provides a standard and modern approach to improve health information technology nationwide.
United Health care provides the important guidelines of preventing health issues at an initial stage which is important in healthy life style. It helps to make the patients healthy. United health group is committed to offer a wide range of health insurance plans and other benefits. The doctors and hospitals in its network are important to measure in the Unite health care because it quickly shows the criteria of pricing and also the quality. To choose a doctor and a hospital, the network includes more than 30,600 doctors and other health professionals including 228 hospitals.
April A. Randall Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V Family-Centered Health Promotion 07/14/13 Review of Literature: Promotion of Health Promotion of health has been the driving force in which patient centered care has become the primary focus of the nursing profession. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health promotion as a process of empowerment of individuals, groups and communities, in which people gain greater control over decisions affecting their health. Health promotion is considered one of the most cost-effective methods of practicing preventive measures in the community. It stresses on the vital roles of individuals, families and community concerning healthy behavior to maintain good health and control diseases. These methods are delivered in three different settings, or levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary.
One of those organizations is the Joint Commission and another one of them is the National Committee of Quality Assurance (NCQA). These organizations are responsible for developing and improving the quality of care. The Joint Commission is responsible for trying to continually improve the health care of the public they do this by working with stakeholders and evaluating different health care organizations while encouraging them to go above and beyond in providing safe and effective care at the highest quality and value (Spath, 2014). The NCQA is responsible for developing standards that will continue to improve the quality of health care. If an organization is interested in acquiring the seal of the NCQA they must first be able to pass a rigorous and comprehensive review as well as report annually on the continued performance of the organization (About NCQA, 2014).
Quality Improvement Report Name HCS 588 Due Date Instructor Name Abstract Quality of care is the degree to which health services for individuals and populations increase the likelihood of desired health outcomes and are consistent with current professional knowledge (Lohr, 1990). Quality management helps health care organizations to plan, organize, communicate, implement, and monitor health care delivery so that it can continuously be improved. This paper will examine quality standards and how to improve quality within Cindy Janowski’s health care organization. We will discuss the foundational frameworks of quality information, why various health care stakeholders define the quality of care differently, and what the roles are of various clinicians and patients in quality information. We will then determine why the quality management is needed within the health care industry, and what areas need to be monitored for quality.
Dr. Nola Pender’s, Revised Health Promotion model was developed “To assist nurses in understanding the major determinants of health behaviors as a basis for behavioral counseling to promote healthy lifestyles” (Pender, 2011, p. 3). By learning what issues contribute to a patient’s health behavior choice, I can be more effective in helping the patient develop healthy choices. According to Pender (Pender, 2011), the set of variables for behavioral specific knowledge and affect have important motivational significance and these variables can be modified through nursing actions. The goal of the health promotion model is for patients to adopt health promoting behaviors. Pender theorizes that health promoting behaviors should result in improved health, enhanced functional ability and better quality of life at all stages of development (Pender, Murdaugh and Parsons,
The nurse can empower populations and communities to increase their involvement in community health promotions and prevention strategies. The empowerment is likely to result in reduced health threats and increased health equity (Kulbok et al., 2012). The nurse can participate in the implementation of active outreach efforts to identify those in need and provide appropriate services (Rosenthal & Wilson, 2008). The nurse also plays a role in improving the health of the population through health education. Through health education, the nurse can raise awareness on mental health related issues as well as the appropriate intervention services.
The mission of CDC is to promote health and quality of life by preventing and controlling disease, injury, and disability. CDC works jointly with other agencies to create the knowledge, tools, and information, people and communities need to protect their health through health promotion, prevention of disease, injury and disability, and preparedness for new health threats. Healthy People in a Healthy World – Through Prevention are the CDC’s vision for the 21st century (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, N/A). CDC seeks to accomplish its mission by working hard with partners around the nation and the world to: monitor health, detect and investigate health problems, conduct research to enhance prevention, develop and advocate sound public, implement prevention strategies, promote health behaviors, foster safe and healthful environments, and provide leadership and training (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, N/A). Through science and research the CDC has been fighting important health issues since 1946 decisively routing courses of action, collectively gathering appropriate information, and collaborating with other health and community organizations.
