Teenagers: Health Effects of Smoking Throughout this series, the focus has been on the effects of smoking. This includes physical and physiological health problems it causes. We have used many different filming techniques including camera angles and surrounding subjects to show examples of underage smoking and drinking. This topic appealed to us because it is a problem in today’s society and does cause serious problems to young adults; such as mental, physical trauma in themselves but also throughout their family and friendship groups. It has caused serious injury to the population and in a lot of cases death has been a long term problem such as addiction which then causes other health problems such as cancer of the lung and throat. Statistics of smoking show; • In 2003, 20% of all cancer deaths were due to smoking. This includes 80% of lung cancer deaths. • 6 trillion cigarettes are smoked each year. • 1,100 packs of 25 cigarettes are sold in Australia every minute! • From 12–17 years, 9% of boys and 10% of girls admitted to smoking in a survey conducted in 2005 • 100 million people were estimated to have died from causes related to smoking in the 20th century. In other words, 100 million people who died unnecessarily from a preventable cause of death. (Health, 2012) This documentary is coming from an educational point of view and is targeted at young adolescence under the legal smoking age. Between the ages of 13 – 17 years of age, teens are seen to smoke illegally at social events and then get addicted to the nicotine, then go on to smoke through for the rest of their lives. As the film directors, we are take a subjective, or biased view against underage smoking. Because of the majority of the film footage will be of interviews and people talking about the negative effects, the main choice of shot would be medium/ medium-long shot depending on
