Health Care Industry Leslie Newberry HCS/449 December 22, 2014 Mia Johnson Health Care Industry This paper will cover what has changed over the last 10 years and what changes we will see over the next 10 years. It will include what role this author will have and how to adapt this author’s skills to evolve along with the health care industry. It will cover this author’s perception of health care changes and what has had the largest impact. It will include the role that technology play in health care organizations in the coming decade and what financial and economic issues will affect the health care industry in the next 10 years. Over the last 10 years there have been several changes in technology in regards to health care. Smart phones and tablets are replacing traditional monitoring and recording systems. Patients and physicians can take an EKG and transfer it on their smartphone wireless, this is known as mHealth. Mobile devices are freeing healthcare devices of wires and allowing physicians and patients to check on healthcare processes while on the go. “An R&R Market Research report estimates the global mHealth market will reach $20.7 billion by 2019, indicating it is only becoming bigger and more prevalent” (Jayanthi, 2014, para. 6). In 2009 there were 16 percent of the hospitals in the United States that incorporated electronic health records (EHR). The EHR combines all the systems that were used to track patients’ information such as, pharmacy, doctor’s orders, and documentation kept on the patient into one system. The EHR has allowed for a more integrated and efficient way to care for patients. Telehealth has saved thousands of dollars in health care cost. By using telehealth an individual can be assessed a diagnosed by video chat with their physician and can receive prescription refills without having to schedule an office visit.
