Unit 501. 1.2 In my Job role I communicate with many individuals including service users, support staff, care managers and outside services. I use a range of communication methods throughout the day this can be spoken, electronic, written, face to face and specialised I:e sign language. I recognise that good communication has to be personalised to each individual and I make sure each person has the correct method of communication to be able to feed back to me. When communicating with support staff I make sure that I remain part of the team and that each member of staff sees me on a regular basis and that they know how to contact me at all times, whether I am in the office or out in the field.
I organise all training within the home and have to ensure that staff are fully aware of courses they need to attend, when the courses are and when they have been confirmed on the course. I am able to do this by ‘advertising’ the course via posters and in the staff communication book, liaising with Head Office to book candidates via email and then notifying staff once confirmed. 1.1 Explain how you have supported effective communication within your own job role In my role I ensure that the residents preferred method of communication is being used at all times. A lot of our residents have reduced hearing and so I need to make sure that staff are addressing them in a suitable environment with limited distractions/interruptions. We also have several residents with a form of dementia which can make effective communication quite challenging, it is my responsibility to ensure that each residents care plan

Unit 501: Use and develop systems that promote communication 1:1 Review the range of groups and individuals whose communication needs must be addressed in own job role. Effective communication helps us better understand a person or situation and enables us to resolve differences, build trust and respect, and create environments where creative ideas, problem solving, affection, and caring can flourish In my role as Branch Manager of a care provider effective communication is paramount to its success. It builds trust, respect, enhances learning and accomplishes goals for not on myself but everyone around me. My role commands that I wear many ‘hats’ communicating with services users, workers(Carers/Nurses), advocates, my internal consultants, external professional bodies, solicitors, government regulators and my own senior management team. There are four main reasons why we communicate, Instrumental(To ask, to refuse, to choose or to express our needs), Informative( To gain information, convey information or to describe something), Expressive(To express thoughts or feelings), Social(Attracting attention, building and maintaining relationships).
This is a great way for all the stakeholders to be involved in the project and to voice everyone’s opinions from all viewpoints at once. This will help everyone to collaborate and really tell what is going on in the system from all points. The champion may be seeing a different problem from the top of Riordan than the system user is. The champion can see the outcome of the problem while the system user can see what is going on directly within the system. All of this information can be relayed appropriately and effectively with everyone together.
I use different techniques when communicating to individuals and use their preferences such as Makaton or pictorial if required. I complete records and reports to the best of my ability and make sure that they are accurate. With no bias or judgemental opinions and that they are fair and equal to all. 2. I provide active support to individuals to enable them to express their communication needs, views and preferences by making available any equipment that is required e.g.
It is important I train and develop staff knowledge and understanding on how to change and develop their use of language and other communication techniques in order to break down any barriers they may face, particularly when dealing with elderly people directly. Elderly residents may be upset, disabled, suffering from a form of dementia or illness, frustrated or confused making communication quite difficult. I ensure staff and myself understand how to be patient, sensitive and able to respond appropriately to different behaviour. I have received dementia training which promoted the understanding in my practice to take into consideration the individual’s ability to communicate with me. An outcome of the training enabled me to reflect and alter any communication I have with
The elderly clients I care for generally have ill health, the illnesses they suffer from can be physical and mental. Physical illness ranges from minor life limiting illness like obesity, to illness that prevents clients from leaving their bed, and are cared for in bed. Mental health illness ranges from minor confusion to extreme paranoia and various levels of dementia. The diverse needs of my client group mean that I have to be aware of individual needs every time I am work and have to develop my own ways of communicating with clients , these ways have to be assessed on every shift as the nature of the client group means the client will have good days and bad days. So although I may have individual ways of communicating they have to be reassessed every shift to ensure they are still relevant.
Work-setting Problem Stigmatization of the mentally ill impairs their social relations and wellness (Foltz & Logsdon, 2009). Staff and family member should receive education regarding mental health disorders and conditions to decrease the stigmas and stereotypes of patients with mental health disorders or conditions. One in five Americans suffers from mental illnesses or disorders, although they fail to receive effective treatment for fear of negative reactions, stereotypes, discrimination, and stigmatization (Foltz & Logsdon, 2009). Stigma is a collaboration of negative attitudes, beliefs, thoughts and behaviors that influence the general public, to
