It sets out the statutory employment rights of workers and employees. If these employment rights are breached, the Employment Rights Act 1996 gives Employment Tribunals power to order compensation to workers and employees. * Equality Act 2010: This Act came into force on the 1st October 2010. It brings together over 116 separate pieces of legislation into one single Act. Combined, they make up a new Act that provides a legal framework to protect the rights of individuals and advance equality of opportunity for all. * Health and Safety at work Act 1974: This is the primary piece of legislation covering occupational health and safety in Great Britain. The Health and Safety Executive, with local authorities is responsible for enforcing the Act and a number of other Acts and Statutory Instruments relevant to the working environment. * Outline why employment legislation exists. Employment legislation is there to protect the workers from unfair practice.
