HEALTH AND SAFETY IN HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE Introduction The basis of health and safety law is the Health and Safety at Work Act (1974), which sets out an employee and their management, guidelines of responsibilities towards the environment, equipment and the service it delivers to the members of the public, I would like to demonstrate how the workplace apply health and safety legislations and the effect this has on all professional carers also the people who use the service, using examples on risk assessments, reviewing, monitoring showing the importance of health and safety and how failure to do so can create serious problems and destroy a health and safety environment, to establish this I will using the case study’s about North Staffordshire combined healthcare NHS Trust and The Elderly Directorate of Moseley Hospital. 1.1 Health and safety is important in any work place, it is about looking after the structure of the Establishment, the equipment and the well-being of people who are employed to run the service to provide a safe place for the vulnerable people in need of care and treatment. The International Labour Organization (ILO) is dedicated to encouraging, upholding and supporting justice all over the world for workers. All hospitals should act in agreement with health and safety policies, procedures and its laws that apply for that particular organisation. In general, the Health and safety act applies to all businesses no matter how big or small. As an employer or even self-employed you are responsible for health and safety in your organisation, for yourself and all the people you employ, everyone should know the right policies and their procedures to reduce the risk of any dangers at work and provide a safe and healthy environment for all who work or visit the establishment this can only enhance the services it provides.
