Stress becomes very dangerous when they use alcohol, tobacco or drugs to try and relieve the stress. Instead of relieving the body it will keep your body at the same stress level or your body can become even more stressed
COPD also increases your risk of heart disease, including heart attack. COPD may limit your ability to be a functional part of society and may reduce your independence, sexual activity, social activities. This can lead to low self-esteem and result in severe depression and
This can ultimately affect the patient’s overall capacity to cope with difficult emotions and situations (Richart-Martinez & Perpina-Galvan, 2009). These effects can lead to the need for more sedation which can hinder weaning attempts. The longer a patient is mechanically ventilated the greater the risk of developing Ventilator Associated Pneumonia, (VAP), and Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS). VAP is a pneumonia that develops 48 hours or longer after mechanical ventilation. It results from the invasion of the lower respiratory tract and lung parenchyma by microorganisms.
Cari’s airway would be affected by excess mucus and fluid buildup because the build up would cause resistance in her lungs due to the small diameter of space that is available. This buildup of fluid would cause some of the alveoli to be under water where they are not able to function properly. There will also be more friction due to the buildup of fluid. E.) How would Cari’s lung compliance (the effort required to expand the lungs) be altered as her alveoli fill with fluid due to pneumonia? Cari’s lung compliance would increase from trying to push gases into and out of the alveoli.
The reason they started to feel sick is because their bodies were diverting blood away from the stomach and using it for muscles and other organs. The reason they sweat is because of homeostasis and the need to maintain a stable body temperature as their bodies are preparing for action. Before and during the ride the adrenal glands, controlled by the endocrine system, would have kicked in. The adrenal glands secrete a fast acting hormone called adrenaline a hormone which is chemically similar to neurotransmitter. Adrenaline would also explain why the boys felt sick and sweaty because it has the same affect in a threatening situation as the sympathetic nervous system.
Stress also increases the heart rate and can lead to the increase of blood pressure, thus Hypertension and can lead to Coronary Heart Disease (CHD). Although this disease can be caused by the indirect effects. Indirect effects of stress are associated with the bad habits that stress causes us to take part in, these included smoking, poor diet and alcohol abuse. These poor habits can thus lead to ill-effects on one’s health. These issues are more related to chronic stress rather than acute stress and it occurs for a long period, thus affecting health for a longer period.
When someone has asthma the bronchi will be more inflamed and more sensitive than normal. When they come into contact with something that will irritate their lungs, which is known as triggers. Their airways become narrow, the muscles around them tighten and there is an increase in the production in the production of sticky mucus. The cause of asthma is not fully understood, although it is known to run in families. Someone is more likely to have asthma if one or both parents have the condition.
In other words, describe some of the symptoms of stress. Stress can affect people in many different ways either psychologically, emotionally, physically or with behavioural signs (usually with a mix of a few) .Each individual will react differently too. Some will feel they can’t “cope” with the slightest bit of pressure while others could “cope” very well to a lot some even thrive on pressure. When we feel stressed it can leave us with many symptoms and affect our mood (mood swings). We can get frustrated, angry and at times be extra sensitive to criticism which can make us become very defensive.
People have the choice to reduce risk factors for illness and injuries. Personality traits and illness are linked by consciousness, emotions and reactions and describe behavior and mental processes. (Sarafino, 2011) For example, developing habits like overeating will be harmful and cause Obesity or Diabetes, but people do it anyway because they enjoy it. Excessive drinking, drug abuse, eating or smoking can hinder how well specific tasks are carried out. Unhealthy habits can lead someone to feel more irritable and lose their focus at work.
This type of stress releases chemicals such as cortisol, adrenaline, and norepinephrine that will escalate our motivation, and strengthen the body. In contrast the bad stress referred as distress is when we feel threaten either physically or emotionally. For the student’s brain this can be not being able to find the solution to the problem, not having enough resources to solve the problem or having prolonged stress over experiencing repeated situations. When the brain is in distress it loses its ability to process things correctly because it poses a physical or emotional danger themselves. The area of the brain most affected by high stress is the hippocampus, which is very sensitive to cortisol.
